A bereaved mother was awarded a total of £20,000 (£24,573.31 RPI adjusted) in an out of court settlement, for post-traumatic stress disorder.

The woman, whose 12 month old child died as a result of inadequate care and treatment provided by a hospital within the Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, was diagnosed with a complicated reaction to her bereavement and sustained post-traumatic stress disorder.

At the time of her settlement the claimant was suffering from residual depression with nightmares.

She was to undergo treatment in the form of six sessions of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and it was expected that she would make a recovery about 4 years after her child's death.

Compensation Settlement

The case was settled out of court and the claimant received a total of £20,000 (£24,573.31 RPI adjusted). This included £9,400 (£11,549.46 RPI adjusted) for general damages for pain, suffering and loss of amenity.
