Live/work property

A live/work property, or live/work unit, is a property that is designed to be used for both residential and business purposes.

Live/work properties may be newly-built, or converted from work premises including warehouses.

Your conveyancing solicitor should inform you when you are buying a property that it is designated as live/work.

Using a live/work for solely residential use is likely to be a breach of the local authority's planning permission rules. Some councils, particularly in London, have periodically enforced these rules to prevent developers from exploiting land designated for employment use.
