Compensation for criminal injuries is usually paid out by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA). The CICA is a government-run body responsible for compensating the victims of violent crime.

The CICA claims process is different from that used following a road accident or work accident. Injured claimants can apply to the CICA directly, or with the help of a solicitor.
